Embracing ICT in Mathematics Education: Online Training Program
The integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into education has become a vital aspect of transforming teaching and learning practices, as emphasized in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This approach aims to create a technologically advanced environment that promotes engagement, flexibility, and personalized learning, particularly in mathematics education.
The Role of ICT in Mathematics Learning
Mathematics can often pose challenges for both educators and learners. Traditional methods may not effectively cater to diverse learning preferences. However, by utilizing ICT, especially Free and Open Source Software (FOSS), educators can create dynamic resources such as simulations, instructional games, and interactive graphs. These tools help deepen conceptual understanding and enhance learner motivation. For instance, GeoGebra integrates algebra, geometry, and calculus, offering visualizations that foster analytical thinking and problem-solving.
Moreover, the NEP 2020 underscores the need for a comprehensive repository of digital educational resources, allowing educators to provide interactive visualizations and personalized instruction, ensuring mathematics education is accessible to all learners.
Upcoming Online Training: “ICT for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics”
To align with this vision, CIET-NCERT is hosting a five-day online training program, which will run in two versions:
- English Version: October 14–18, 2024
- Hindi Version: October 21–25, 2024
Sessions are scheduled daily from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, providing educators with insights into effectively integrating ICT tools into mathematics instruction.
Training Objectives Participants will:
- Understand the significance of ICT in contemporary mathematics education.
- Examine the scope of ICT for teaching and learning mathematics.
- Develop skills in integrating audio and video resources into instruction.
- Explore FOSS tools like GeoGebra for effective teaching.
- Investigate immersive technologies in teaching mathematical concepts.
- Identify digital games and applications to enhance engagement.
- Foster innovative pedagogical approaches using ICT.
Who Can Participate?
This program is open to students, teachers, teacher educators, parents, administrators, and anyone interested in the field.
